SCBA elections likely March 13, 14

The annual election of the Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) is likely to be held on March 13 and 14.

SCBA Secretary Barrister AM Mahbub Uddin Khokon told The Daily Star today, the current body of the country’s prime bar association will officially announce the schedule next week.

Around 6,000 lawyers have registered their names as voters for the SCBA annual election, SCBA Superintendent Nimesh Chnadra Das told this correspondent.

Vote casting will take place from 10:00am to 5:00pm with a one-hour lunch break on the election days for 14 executive posts including that of the president and secretary, he said.

SCBA sources said the main contest of the election will take place between ruling Awami League backed Bangladesh Sammilita Ainjibi Samannaya Parishad (BSASP) and BNP-backed Bangladesh Jatiyatabadi Ainjibi Oikya Parishad (BJAOP).

None of the lawyer bodies have finalised their candidates for the election.
