RMG worker ‘raped’ in Savar

A female worker of a ready-made garment factory in Savar's Ashuliya was allegedly raped by a local youth.

The incident took place on Wednesday evening in Ashuliya's Gorat area when the 19-year-old survivor, along with two coworkers, was returning home from the RMG factory, reported our Savar correspondent.

A local youth, Rana Miah, 23, and his two cohorts allegedly intercepted the survivor and her coworkers and forced them into a brick kiln in the vicinity. There, three other associates of Rana were waiting and beat up the victim's coworkers while Rana raped her with the help of his two cohorts.

Hearing the survivor's screams, locals went to the spot and the culprits fled the scene.

The survivor later filed a case against the culprits with Ashuliya Police Station on the same night, said Nahid Hasan, a sub-inspector of the police station.

The survivor has been sent to the One-stop Crisis Centre at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) for a medical test, SI Nahid also said.

Police are trying to nab the accused, he added.
