Rape of minor girl: Man gets life term

A Joypurhat court yesterday sentenced a man to life term imprisonment in connection with a case for raping a minor girl in Panchbibi upazila in 2015.

The convicted is Jahrul Islam, 23, of Atapara village.

Rangpur Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal Judge Mohammad Rustom Ali handed down the verdict in presence of the convict.

The court also fined him Tk 1 lakh. In default, he is to suffer one year more in prison.

According to the prosecution, the convict lured the minor victim while she was playing nearby her house alone and took the girl to a secluded place and raped her.

After returning home, when the girl disclosed the matter to her parents, her father filed a case with Panchbibi Police Station in this regard.

After examining all the records and witnesses, the court delivered the verdict yesterday noon, Public Prosecutor Firoza Chowdhury said.
