Rape of 3 Schoolgirls: Another arrestee confesses crime

Another arrestee gave statement to the court in Tangail yesterday admitting his involvement with Sunday’s rape of three schoolgirls in Ghatail upazila. 

Police produced the arrestee, Mohammad Russel, 22, son of Shukur Mahmud of Sandhanpur Modhyapara village in the upazila, to the court in the afternoon, said Tanvir Ahmed, court inspector in Tangail.

Senior Judicial Magistrate Farzana Hasanat recorded his confessional statement under Section 164, he added.

Earlier on Tuesday, police produced three other accused of the case -- Yusuf Ali, Babul alias Sabuj and Sujon -- to the court.

Yusuf, 30, and Babul, 35, of Satkua village, gave confessional statements to Senior Judicial Magistrates Sumon Kumar Karmokar and Ariful Islam respectively under Section 164, admitting their involvement with the incident.

On the same day, Senor Judicial Magistrates Nawrin Mahbub and Farzana Hasanat in Tangail recorded statements of four girls including the three rape victims, the court inspector added.         

The four girls, Class IX students of a school in Ghatail, along with two boys went to Jharka in the upazila by a three-wheeler on Sunday noon.

A group of locals confined them in Satkua area and drove away the two boys after beating them.

Later, three of the group raped three girls while one girl could escape as she seemed known to one of the criminals.  

Informed by the guardians, a police team recued the girls and took them to Ghatail Police Station the same night.  

Father of one of the victim girls filed a case with the police station against seven unnamed people under Women and Children Repression Prevention Act on Monday and police arrested four people in connection with the incident the same day.
