Rajesh Yadav has got admission to the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering at Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST) but he is still unsure about continuation of higher study due to acute financial hardship.

Rajesh's father Shankar Yadav, a garden worker of Shomshernagar Tea Estate in Kamalganj upazila of Moulvibazar, said he had to sell his three domestic goats for arranging his son's admission.

“I and my wife get Tk 102 each as daily wage, which is not sufficient to maintain our seven-member family. We have to spend some amount every month to buy medicines for my eldest son Dewkumar Yadav, as he is mentally challenged,” he said.

“We have appealed to a number of my relatives and neighbours for help, but did not get any response yet,” said an anxious Shankar.

“Rajesh, second among our five children, is a brilliant student since his childhood,” said Gongajoli Yadav, mother of Rajesh.

“He got GPA-5 in the JSC examinations in 2013 and GPA-4.89 in the SSC examinations from AATM High School in 2016. Later he passed the HSC examinations with GPA-4.50 from Suja Memorial College in Kamalganj in 2018. I am proud of my brilliant son,” Sankar Yadav said.

Expressing anxiety over his academic career, Rajesh said, “I am still in doubt about fulfilling my dream of completing my study at the prestigious institution due to acute hardship.”

Mithun Kurmi, general secretary of Uttaran Bangladesh (a tea estate students' welfare organisation), said bright future awaits Rajesh if he gets support for continuing higher study.
