Pre-Polls Violence: 10 AL men hurt in attack

Ten men of the Awami League (AL) nominated chairman candidate were injured in an attack allegedly by the supporters of a 'rebel' candidate in Tangail's Basail upazila on Saturday.

Of the injured,  Abu Hanif Miah, joint secretary of upazila unit of AL, and its activists Banijur Rahman, Chan Mamud Miah, Robin Ahmed and Roni Miah, were admitted to the upazila health complex while the rest given first aid.

The injured said supporters of rebel chairman candidate Kazi Alid Islam attacked them when they were returning home after joining a meeting of AL nominated chairman candidate Haji Motiar Rahman Gaus ahead of the upazila parishad polls to be held on March 31.

SM Tuhin Ali, OC of Basail Police Station, said necessary steps will be taken if a complaint is lodged.
