Railways Minister Nurul Islam Sujan yesterday said Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will officially lay the foundation stone of the Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Railway Bridge over the Jamuna River on November 29.

He said the bridge will be built next to the Bangabandhu Bridge.

All processes, including tenders and contracts, have already been completed for the construction of the bridge.

The construction will start after the laying of the foundation, said Sujan while inspecting the site at Saidabad Golchattar in Sirajganj Sadar upazila.

The minister said the implementation work on the project will start after dividing it into two parts -- Sirajganj and Tangail regions.

The new bridge will be able to run trains at a speed of 100 kmph with two lines, said Sujan.

The project will be completed by 2025, he added.
