One killed in Barguna ice factory gas cylinder explosion

One person was killed and at least 50 others fell ill as a gas cylinder of an ice factory in Barguna's Patharghat upazila exploded early today.

The deceased was identified as Shahjahan alias Samrat, 50, a mechanic of the factory, reports our local correspondent quoting Shahabuddin, officer-in-charge of Patharghata Police Station.

Around 50 people, including five firefighters fell ill due to toxic gas inhalation following the explosion around 12:30am, the OC said adding that eight of them were taken to Barisal Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital while others were taken to Patharghata Upazila Health Complex.

Further details about the incident could not be known immediately.
