A man was killed and six others were injured in a clash between two neighbouring families over a trivial matter in Shailakupa upazila of the district yesterday.

The deceased, Ratan Mondol, 45, son of Raihan Mondol, was a resident of Basantapur village in the upazila.

The injured, Tayeb Ali, Seken Mondol, Dulal Mondol, Kabir Mondol, Bachchu Mondol and Anwar Mondol are now undergoing treatment at Shailakupa Upazila Health Complex.

Quoting the villagers, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP Circle) Tarek Al Mehedi said an altercation took place between two neighbouring families when a tree owned by Seken fell on the courtyard of neighbour Waliar Rahman on Tuesday night.

As a sequel to the conflict, both the family members again engaged in a quarrel around 7:00am yesterday and at one stage they attacked each other with sharp weapons, leaving seven people from both sides injured.

Local people rescued them and took them to Shailakupa Upazila Health Complex where the doctors declared Ratan dead.
