One killed, 5 injured in Pabna clash

Ex-UP member mudered in Dinajpur

A youth was killed in a clash between two groups over capturing an auto-rickshaw stand in Pabna town yesterday, while a former union parishad member was found murdered in Biral upazila of Dinajpur on the same day.

In Pabna, the victim Md Arin Pramanik, 25, son of Vuto Pramanik, was the 'chain master' of an auto-rickshaw stand.

Police and locals said two groups clashed over capturing an auto-rickshaw stand in Poilanpur area at about 1:00pm yesterday. Several shops and vehicles in the area were vandalised during the clash, our Pabna correspondent reports.

The criminals hacked Arin mercilessly, leaving him critically injured. He was taken to Pabna Medical College Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries at about 2:00pm.

Additional Superintendent of Police Goutam Kumar said police rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control. Additional police have been deployed in the area, he added.

The body was sent to the hospital morgue for autopsy.

Meanwhile in Dinajpur, a former union parishad member was found murdered in Biral upazila of the district yesterday, said police.

The deceased was Dilip Chandra Sarkar, 40, son of Kuranu Chandra Sarkar of Bhandara village under Biral upazila of Dinajpur, and a former member of ward-8 of Bhandara Union Parishad in the upazila.

Biral Police Station Sub-Inspector (SI) Shahidul Islam said residents of South Bhandara village informed police after they found the body in a litchi orchard in the village at around 9:30am yesterday, our Dinajpur correspondent reports.

Police recovered the dead body and sent it to M Abdur Rahim Medical College Hospital for autopsy, the SI said. There were torture marks on the body.

It is suspected that criminals dumped the body in the litchi orchard after killing him elsewhere, said police.
