The innovative floating bridge, built over Jhampa Baor in Jashore's Manirampur upazila, was badly damaged during a storm on Saturday night.

As a result, communication between Rajganj Bazar and Jhampa village remained suspended for over a day, causing immense sufferings to several thousand people of the village.

A portion of the bridge collapsed when a sudden storm lashed through the area and hit it in the middle.

Though many locals were passing leisure time on the bridge during the incident, they somehow managed to move to nearby safer places.

Liton Hossain, one of the members of Jhampa Village Development Foundation, said, “We started the bridge repair work soon after the storm ended and communication through the bridge resumed today [Monday].”

Jhampa Village Development Foundation, comprising of 56 local youths, built the thousand-foot-long bridge, made of 839 plastic drums, 800 iron angles and 250 four-foot-wide iron plates, at a cost of Tk 70 lakh.
