Attack on Female M Ed Student

None held yet

Police are yet to arrest any of the attackers for their alleged involvement in physically harassing a female student at Mymensingh Teachers Training College campus in the town on Thursday night.

Police received the written complaint filed by victim Zono, 25, a Master of Education (M Ed) student at the institution and daughter of Wahiduzzaman of Dhulipita village in Bhaluka upazila, on Saturday evening.

Earlier, at a press conference at Mymensingh Press Club the same afternoon, Zono said she had an altercation with Shampa, an alleged outsider at female dormitory Bangamata Begum Fazilatunnesa Mujib Hostel, over drying clothes on the roof of the three-storey building on Thursday noon and Shampa threatened to teach her a good lesson.

“Shortly afterwards, I informed college Principal Nasir Uddin about the threat. The principal told me that he assigned one of the teachers Rafiqul Islam to look into the matter and assured me of providing security," Zono said.

"When I went to the college dining room around 8:00pm the same night, a group of 10 to 12 youths led by Jubo League district unit Joint Secretary Rasel Pathan, also former vice president of the college unit, physically harassed me and hurled abuses.

“I ran to my hostel room to save myself,” Zono said.

A group of unidentified outsiders swooped on students when they were about to hold a human chain programme on Saturday morning, protesting the incident, said Sumon Taj, a student of the institution.

A four-member probe committee was formed on Saturday to investigate the incident, Principal Nasir Uddin said.

Kotwali Police Station OC Abul Mansur Ahmed said they received a written complaint on Saturday  and investigation is on.
