Brutality on Boy in Kishoreganj

None arrested yet

Nine days into the incident, none has been arrested yet in a case for beating a boy over theft charge in Kishoreganj Sadar upazila.

Victim Shafiq Mia, 15, who was beaten allegedly by his neighbours on October 22, took treatment at Kishoreganj General Hospital.

Shafiq's mother Fatema Begum lodged a case with Sadar Police Station accusing nine people, including neighbor Abdul Latif, on October 29.

Contacted, Kishoreganj Additional Superintendent of Police Masud Anwar said separate police teams are raiding different areas to arrest the culprits.

Shafiq, son of Moti Mia of Kalikabari village in Sadar upazila, lives with his maternal uncle's family as his mother works as a domestic help in Dhaka.

On October 22, a group of people picked up Shafiq and took him to the house of Latif, alleging that he stole a television from Latif's house about a year ago.

They tied the boy to a tree at Latif's courtyard and beat him mercilessly, leaving him unconscious and fled the scene.

Local people rescued Shafiq from a bamboo cluster and sent him to Kishoreganj General Hospital.

Orthopaedic Surgeon Dr Bidhan Chandra Banik of the hospital said the condition of the boy has improved but he has a kidney problem.

Shafiq, however, was released from the hospital on November 5 as his condition improved a lot.
