Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal today said that his government is determined in a bid to free the Sundarbans, the world’s largest mangrove forest, from the grip of bandits.

“Be careful. No one will be spared. We take action against all bandits and their godfathers for carrying out criminal activities including robbery in the Sundarbans,” Kamal said while addressing a programme at Sheikh Helal Uddin Stadium in Bagerhat marking the first anniversary of declaring the Sundarbans free from robbers.

On November 1 last year, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina declared the Sundarbans free from robbers after 54 robbers with their firearms in the area surrendered to the home minister in Bagerhat on the same day.

Marking the day, the home minister said his government is keen to provide necessary assistances to the derailed people who are surrendering to the law enforces, responding Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s call to return to the normal life.

“We are initiating all kinds of measurers so that the robbers can lead a normal life after returning from the path,” he said.

During the programme, the home minister also provided gift items to the bandits, who surrendered, in the programme.
