No new dengue patients were admitted to any hospital across the country during the last 24 hours, for the first time in the last nine months, the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) said today.

A total of 29 dengue patients are currently admitted to different hospitals across the country, according to DGHS’s report. Among them, 26 are in Dhaka and three are outside of the capital.

Since the beginning of January, a total of 152 dengue patients were admitted to hospitals till 8:00 am this morning. Among them, 123 have been already discharged from the hospitals and no one succumbed to the illness, the report also claimed.

“The report is based on DGHS’s own surveillance system,” said Dr. Ayesha Aktar, assistant director of DGHS Health Emergency Operation Centre and Control Room.

According to government estimates, the total number of people infected with dengue was 1,01,354 in the last nine months. However, private estimates say the number of infected people was more than three lakh.

The number of deaths from the disease was 166, according to the government estimates.

Meanwhile, a total of 3,84,711 people have been hospitalised with cold-related illnesses across the country from November 1 last year to 8:00 am today, the report read.

The DGHS report also added that 57 people have died during this time.
