Newlywed found dead

Police recovered the body of a newlywed woman from her husband's house at Mahalbari village in Ranishankoil municipality of Thakurgaon yesterday.

The deceased was Khaleda Begum, 20, wife of Shamim Hossain of the village.

Shamim's family claimed that Khaleda committed suicide by hanging herself from a beam of their kitchen while the victim's parents said she was murdered.

The victim's father Fazlur Rahman of Amgaon Khankipara village in Haripur upazila said Khaleda married Shamim, 28, son of Yunus Ali of Mahalbari village, nine months ago.

After marriage, Shamim used to torture Khaleda for dowry, Fazlur.

Several days ago, Khaleda went to her paternal house as Shamim tortured her for dowry. Later, she was sent to her in-laws' house after village arbitration, said Fazlur.

It would be clear whether it was murder or suicide after getting the autopsy report, said police.
