Newborn left in paddy field, dies

Police found a dead newborn, abandoned in a paddy field of Madaribon area in the district's Kamalganj upazila on Monday.

"While tending my vegetable garden around 11:00am, I heard a baby's cry. After locating the newborn in a carton in an adjacent paddy field I called Kamalganj Police Station," said Moksud Mia, a local.

However, the baby died by the time police reached the spot and the body was sent to Moulvibazar Sadar Hospital for autopsy, said Arifur Rahman, OC of Kamalganj Police Station.

"We are investigating  to track down those who had abandoned the baby," he added.
