New help desks for 700 police stations: IGP

Four help desks will be set up at 700 police stations to expand the services delivered by the police emergency helpline 999, Inspector General of Police Dr Mohammad Javed Patwary said today.

He said this at the inauguration of a mural of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman at the Sylhet Police Lines. He also inaugurated a newly constructed armoury, the extension work for a newly constructed female police barrack, and a new entrance for the Police Lines at the programme.

“The police emergency helpline has already received two crore calls in the last one year. We are taking more initiatives to expand the service," he said.

He also said, “We are taking initiatives to improve the life of police personnel. Barracks are being developed, while all police stations will get new vehicles by this year."

Later in the afternoon, he attended a Police Conference and prize giving ceremony of annual sports. The programme was jointly organised by Sylhet Metropolitan and District Police.

Sylhet Range DIG, Sylhet Metropolian Police Commissioner, District Police’s Superintendent, and other top police officials were also present in the programmes.

The help desks will be set up to mark the Mujib Borsho.
