Wife, her parents arrested

Mystery shrouds the death of a young man in Habiganj Sadar upazila.

Police recovered the body of Kawsar Ahmed, 28, of Umednagar village, from a local water body on Saturday evening, five days after he went missing on Monday.

Police detained Kawsar's wife Sukhbanu, 22, and her parents Moksud Ali and Khairunnesa of Tongirghat village for their alleged involvement in the death, Officer-in-Charge (investigation) of Sadar Model Police Station Ziaur Rahman said.

Following a General Diary (GD) filed with the police station by Kawsar's family, police on suspicion detained Kawsar's wife Sukhbanu for interrogation on Saturday afternoon.

In primary interrogation, Sukhbanu said after an altercation with her at her father's house, Kawsar hanged himself from a tree near the house on Monday, Ziaur said.

Later, her father cut Kawsar's body into two pieces and dumped it in nearby Ruail haor in a bid to hide the body, he added.

Police detained Moksud from Naogaon area in the evening and recovered Kawsar's body following his information.

The OC said Kawsar had been torturing Sukhbanu, also  mother of two children, over trivial matters since their marriage five years ago and often kept her confined to his house.

Sukhbanu went to visit her father's house a couple of days ago and did not want to go back to her husband due to his brutal torture.

On Monday, Kawsar went to his in-laws' house to bring his wife back home and remained missing since then.
