Municipality staffers demand salary from govt fund

Officers and employees of Gaibandha municipality staged a daylong work abstention on the municipality office premises yesterday, demanding salary and allowance from the government’s fund.

Officers and employees of Gobindaganj and Sundarganj municipalities also observed the same programme, organised by Bangladesh Municipality Services Association, Gaibandha unit, to realise the demand.

In Gaibandha, the speakers at the programme pointed out that officers and employees in 327 municipalities all over the country are not getting their salaries and bills regularly due to fund constraint. They are passing hard days due to the situation.

In many municipalities, employees have been deprived of salaries for two months to even six years. They are not getting festival allowances either.

The speakers also urged the government to nationalise services of municipalities.

Service seekers are facing immense problems due to the ongoing agitation and shutdown of the offices.

“Due to the shutdown of the office, I could not receive death certificate of my brother, which was so essential for official work,” said Mizanur Rahman of Kuthipara in Gaibandha municipality.
