Awami League's Faridpur town unit president Nazmul Islam Khandaker was held today in connection with money laundering.

A team of police led by Morshed Alam, officer-in-charge of Kotwali Police Station, detained him from his office in Charkamalapur area of ​​the district town around 12:45pm, our Faridpur correspondent reports quoting police.

Md Alimuzzaman, superintendent of police in Faridpur, said Nazmul Hasan has been held in a money laundering case as per the instruction of Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of police.

After his arrest, Nazmul was sent to Faridpur Jail through the court of the chief judicial magistrate of the district, the SP said adding, the CID will show Nazmul arrested in the case and later take him into their custody from the district jail.

Nazmul was held after former Faridpur town unit Awami League general secretary Sajjad Hossain alias Barkat and his brother Imtiaz Hasan alias Rubel, former president of Faridpur Press Club, gave confessional statement before a Dhaka court yesterday (July 30) in a case filed over siphoning off Tk 2,000 crore abroad.

The CID filed the case against the duo under the money laundering act with Kafrul Police Station in the capital on June 26.

On June 7, police arrested nine people, including Sajjad and Rubel, from different areas of Faridpur town for their alleged involvement in attacking the house of Subal Chandra in the town's Goalchamat area on May 16.

After their arrest, in primary probe, the inspector found the two had smuggled around Tk 2,000 crore abroad.
