Mob beats 2 ‘robbers’ to death in Habiganj

Two suspected robbers were beaten to death by an angry mob in Habiganj's Lakhai upazila early yesterday.

The deceased were identified as Humayun Miah, a resident of Madhabpur upazila of the district, and, Abdul Hamid of Brahmanbaria's Nasirnagar upazila.

Officer in Charge (OC) of Lakhai Police Station Md Saidul Islam said the two victims were attacked with fishing spears when they were caught by locals at Gunipur village.  

According to locals, a gang of 10 to 12 robbers entered the house of one Jalal Miah of the village around 3:00am early yesterday when angry villagers caught two of the gang members and beat them up, leaving them dead on the spot.

On information, a police team went to the spot, recovered the bodies and sent those to Habiganj Sadar Hospital for autopsy, the OC added.
