MJF expresses concern over death of a college student in Gulshan flat

Manusher Jonno Foundation (MJF) has expressed concern over the death of a college student in a flat in Dhaka's Gulshan area on April 26.

They also expressed concern at the submission of a bail petition by the accused and demanded a fair investigation so that the accused in the case cannot escape the law.

MJF, a non-government and non-profit organisation, issued a press statement in this regard.

In the statement they also noted that the public is very aggrieved by incidents of such violence on women.

MJF's Executive Director Shaheen Anam in the statement said the incidents of rape and killings are on the rise as these cases are not being put under speedy trial. And in many cases, there is no exemplary punishment for the accused.

As such, MJF wants assurance of speedy trial of all the cases related to violence against women, Shaheen Anam said in the statement signed by MJF senior Coordinator Shahana Huda Ranjana.

According to the statistics of Ain o Salish Kendra, 46 women were murdered by their husbands across the country within January-March this year, the statement mentioned.

At least 107 incidents of torture have taken place and only 39 cases were filed during the period.

Other than that, 238 women and children were raped and of them 10 were murdered, it said.
