Microbus that ran over mountaineer Reshma seized, driver held

Police today arrested the microbus driver who ran over and killed young mountaineer Reshma Nahar Ratna on August 7.

A team of police arrested Md Nayem, aged 27, from Dhaka's Kafrul area and seized the black Hiace microbus, said Sub-Inspector Mubarak Ali of Sher-e-Bangla Nagar Police Station, also investigating officer of the case.

Young mountaineer Reshma was killed after the microbus hit her bicycle on Lake Road near the Jatiya Sangsad in the morning of August 7.

Pedestrians took her to Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital where doctors declared her dead.

Police officials said they had formed several teams and analysed CCTV camera footages of different areas in the city. It finally traced the vehicle and seized it from Kafrul's Ibrahimpur area.

The owner claimed that he had rented the vehicle to a private firm and a driver named Nayem was behind the wheel on the day of the accident.

Police then arrested the driver.
