UP member held with 9 pistols, ammunition along Benapole border

Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) today arrested a Union Parishad member along with nine 9mm pistols, 49 rounds of bullets and 19 magazines from Putkhali border area in Benapole.

The arrestee was identified as Habibur Rahman, an elected member of Putkhali Union Parishad, reports our Benapole correspondent quoting Lt M Sarwar Hussain, company commander of Rab-6 in Jashore.

On information that a large consignment of arms from India was going to Jashore, Rab members raided the house of Putkhali UP member Habibur Rahman this afternoon and seized nine 9mm pistols, 49 rounds of bullets and 19 magazines from his possession, Lt Sarwar said, adding that Habibur was detained in this connection and later handed over to Benapole Port Police Station.

Habibur has been involved in arms business for a long time, the Rab official said.

A case has been lodged in this connection with the police station, he added.
