Man stabbed to death over playing soccer

The incident followed altercation between two neighbours in Kulaura

A man was killed and three others were injured following an altercation over a football game in Kulaura upazila on Friday.

The deceased was Emon Mia, 28, son of Batir Mia of Khadimpara village.

Police said an altercation took place between Emon and his neighbour Arun Mia over a football match organised by locals.

Later, Emon went to Arun's house after Juma prayers and beat him up. Arun took treatment at Kulaura Upazila Health Complex and returned home.

Deceased's father Batir Mia, said Arun and two others attacked Emon with sharp weapons in the evening and stabbed him to death.

 Kulaura Police Station Sub-Inspector Harun Al Rashid said some of Emon's relatives beat up Arun Mia and his associates Dipu Ahmed and Noman Ahmed after Emon's death, leaving them seriously injured.

They were admitted to Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital.

The murder might have been premeditated, police suspected.

Police sent Emon's body to Moulvibazar Sadar Hospital for autopsy, said Kulaura Police Station Officer-in-Charge Md Shamim Musha.

The prime suspect and his two associates are undergoing treatment under police custody, he added.
