Man stabbed to death in clash over Ctg elections

A man was stabbed to death in a clash between a group supporting a ward councillor and another supporting his rival candidate at Kattali area in Chattogram late last night.

The deceased was identified as Arafat Jahid Tanvir, 40, our correspondent reports quoting Deputy Commissioner (west) Faruq ul Haque.

He was a supporter of the incumbent councillor of ward 11, police and local sources said.

Deputy Commissioner (west) Faruq ul Haque said a clash had ensued between supporters of ward councillor Morshed and his rival Ismail and at one point Arafat was stabbed and critically injured.

He was declared dead at around 11:30pm at Chattogram Medical College hospital, added Nayek Amir Hossain of CMCH police outpost.

Police personnel were at the spot of the clash and trying to bring the situation under control when this report was filed.
