Man shaves his wife’s head off over trifling matter in Bogura

In a barbaric style, a man has brutally tortured his wife and shaved her head off following a feud over trifling mater in Nandigram upazila of Bogura.

A glass jar of pickles got broken after unconsciously falling it from hands of Marjia Khatun Rupali, 22, yesterday morning, our correspondent reports quoting the victim.

Following the incident, Rupali’s husband Morshedul Islam beat her up mercilessly and shaved her head off in line with the order of her mother-in-law, she said.

On information, police detained Morshedul Islam, a truck driver by profession, this morning after the victim’s parents lodged a complaint with Nandigram Police Station in this connection, said Mohammad Shawkat Kabir, officer-in-charge of the police station.

“My mother-in-law Bebi Khatun told her son that I broke the jar deliberately and I locked into a quarrel with her over the issue. Based on the allegation, my husband shaved my head off,” Rupali told a group of local journalists.

Later, the victim’s mother Munjuara Begum with the help of local people rescued her daughter, she said.   

OC Mohammad Shawkat Kabir said the victim’s mother filed a case against three people including Morshedul and his mother Munjuara, with the police station under the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act.

Morshedul, a resident of Yusufpur village in the upazila, got married Rupali of Pachpakia village in Natore’s Singra upazila ninth month ago.
