Man rescued near launch capsize site in Buriganga river

While airlifting a launch around twelve hours after it capsized on the Buriganga river, rescue workers recovered a man who swam up from the capsize site.

Deputy Director of Fire Service and Civil Defence Debashish Bardhan said the man named Shumon aged around 35 surfaced just when they managed to lift the launch a little.

He was rushed to Mitford hospital by an ambulance right after being rescued, said Kamrul Hasan, duty officer of fire service and civil defence.

The man was conscious for a few moments inside the ambulance and even looked around at all those present in the vehicle, said Debashish.

Following the capsize, hundreds of people have been teeming around the area as well. Rescue workers, however, could not confirm whether the man was in the launch or fell from one of the nearby boats.

So far, rescue workers have recovered the bodies of 32 people after the launch carrying over 100 passengers capsized in Buriganga river at Dhaka's Shyambazar this morning.
