Man kills wife, tries to take own life

A man attempted to take his own life after allegedly killing his wife over a family dispute in Ghoraghat upazila of the district early yesterday.

The deceased was identified as Kerina Murmu, 38, wife of Rabin Mardi of Kalupara village in the upazila.

Police and locals said the couple locked in an altercation over a family issue. At one stage, Rabin took a heavy iron rod and hit his wife in the head.

She died on the spot, said Amirul Islam, officer-in-charge of Ghoraghat Police Station, adding that Rabin later took pesticide to kill himself.

Informed by locals, police rushed to the spot and recovered the body and sent it to M Abdur Rahim Medical College Hospital for autopsy.

Rabin was admitted to the upazila health complex, said the OC.
