Man kills wife for dowry

A housewife was stabbed to death allegedly by her husband at Collegepara in Debiganj upazila of Panchagarh yesterday.

The deceased was Enura Begum, 40, wife of Abul Kalam, 46, of Bakpara village in the upazila.

About a month ago, Enura left her in-laws' house following a family feud over dowry and had been staying with her parents since then, Officer-in-Charge of Debiganj Police Station Rabiul Islam said.

The incident occurred when Kalam entered his in-laws' house around 2:00pm and stabbed Enura, daughter of Entaj Ali, on the abdomen with a knife, when her day labourer parents were not present at home. 

Hearing screams, locals went to the spot and took Enura to Debiganj Upazila Health Complex where the doctors declared her dead, police said.
