Man killed over land dispute

A man, who was injured in an attack allegedly by his rivals over a disputed land in Ishwarganj upazila on Saturday, died at Mymensingh Medical College Hospital (MMCH) the same night.

The victim, Azizul Islam, 40, was son of Kalim Uddin of Morichar Char Namapara village in the upazila.

Quoting the victim's family members, Officer in Charge (OC) of Ishwarganj Police Station Muklesur Rahman said there had been a longstanding rivalry between Azizul and his cousin Tachhir Uddin, 50, over the ownership of a disputed land.

As a sequel, Tachhir's men assaulted Masud Mia, brother-in-law of Azizul, while he was crossing Tachhir's house on Saturday morning.

Later, an altercation took place between Azizul and Tachhir over the matter at a tea-stall around 8:00pm the same night.

At one stage, Tachhir and his men stabbed Azizul with sharp weapons, leaving him severely injured.

Locals rescued injured Azizul and admitted him to MMCH, where he succumbed to his injuries around 9:30pm, the OC said.

Following a case filed by victim's wife Shamsun Nahar yesterday, police detained three women for their alleged involvement in the murder.

The arrestees are Hajera Khatun, 35, Laily Akter, 23, and Sharmin Akter, 24.
