Man jailed for possessing pistol, bullets

A court here yesterday sentenced a man to 17 years’ imprisonment for possessing an illegal firearm and six bullets in Ghoraghat upazila.

The convict is Abdul Hakim, 48, son of late Abdul Latif of Chawkshal Pashchimpara village in the upazila.

Additional District and Sessions Judge Anwarul Haque delivered the verdict in a crowded courtroom.

According to the prosecution, Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) in a drive arrested Hakim with a pistol and six bullets in the area on September 3 in 2016.

Later, a case was filed in connection with the incident.

After examining witnesses and evidence, the judge found Hakim guilty and pronounced the verdict.
