Man injured by rivals dies

A man, who was injured in an attack allegedly by one of his neighbours and his men in Netrakona’s Khaliajury upazila on Tuesday evening, died at a hospital yesterday.

The victim, Rafiqul Islam, 48, a poultry farmer, was son of Jobbar Ali of Krishanapur village.

Quoting the deceased’s family members and locals, police said there had been a longstanding feud between Rafiqul and his neighbour Abdur Razzak, also a poultry farmer, over rearing their ducks in a local waterbody.

The duo locked in an altercation over the issue on Tuesday evening and at one stage, Razzak and his men beat Rafiqul mercilessly, leaving him critically injured.

Family members rescued injured Rafiqul and took him to Khaliajury Upazila Health Complex, from where he was referred to Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital, Officer in Charge of Khaliajury Police Station ATM Mahmudul Haque said, adding that Rafiqul died at the hospital yesterday morning.
