Man held for 'raping daughter-in-law'

Case filing delayed by one week amid threat by accused

A man was arrested on Saturday in connection with a case for raping his daughter-in-law in Shajahanpur upazila about a week ago.

Following a complaint lodged by the 28-year-old victim, members of Rapid Action Battalion (Rab-12) raided the residence of the accused around 4:50pm and detained him, Company Commander of Rab-12 Major Morshed said.

, adding that they later handed him over to Shajahanpur Police Station the same evening.

The victim, also mother of a girl, filed a case under Women and Children Repression Prevention Act around 9:00pm the same night, Officer in Charge (OC) of the police station Zia Latiful Islam said.

According to the case statement, the 50-year-old accused entered the victim's room on the night of February 16 and raped her in absence of her husband.

He also threatened the housewife with dire consequences and told her not to disclose the matter to others, which delayed the process of filing of the rape case, read the case statement.

Meanwhile, police produced the arrestee before a Bogura court yesterday afternoon and the court sent him to jail, the OC said, adding that the victim was taken to Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital for medical test.
