Man held, looted cash recovered

Police arrested a youth yesterday in connection with the case for killing a pregnant woman and her four-year-old daughter in the town early Sunday.

The arrestee, Raiz Uddin, 36, is a resident of Bhallukkandi area under ward No 9 in Tangail municipality.

Police recovered throat-slit bodies of Lucky Begum, 22, wife of Al Amin, and their daughter Alifa from her house early Sunday.

Al Amin, a mobile recharge shop owner in Bhallukkandi area, said he found the two dead bodies at the yard after returning home from his shop Sunday late night.

Slain Lucky’s father Hasmot Ali of Ramnagar village filed a case with Tangail Model Police Station accusing some unidentified criminals the same day.

Tangail Superintendent of Police Sanjit Kumar Roy at a press briefing yesterday said they detained Raiz, suspecting his involvement in the murder.

During interrogation, Raiz admitted that he committed the murders for looting money from the house.

Later, following his confession, police recovered Tk 8 lakh looted money and a knife used in the killing.
