Man gets life for raping schoolgirl

A court here yesterday sentenced a youth to life-term rigorous imprisonment (RI) and fined him Tk 1 lakh for raping a schoolgirl.

Judge Munshi Moshiur Rahman of Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal pronounced the verdict.

The convict is Abu Zafar alias Zaferul, 24, son of Abdur Rahman Moulavi of Sadar upazila.

According to the prosecution, Zafar had developed relationship with the girl of his neighbouring house. He called the girl to his house on June 28 in 2013 when she was returning home from coaching about 5:00pm.

He raped her when no one was present there.

He was arrested on June 3, 2014.
