The deceased, Abul Kalam Azad (26), was a house painter and a resident of Pirpur Uttorpara, reports our Sylhet correspondent quoting police.

The incident took place in Pirpur village around 2:00pm, Mostafa Kamal, officer-in-charge of Chhatak Police Station said quoting locals.

"Abul Kalam Azad's 12-year-old nephew was riding a bicycle inside the premises of their home when their neighbours scolded the child," Mostafa Kamal said.

"Abul Kalam got into an altercation with the neighbours who then beat him up badly leaving him critically injured. His relatives rushed him to Koitok Hospital in the upazila where doctors declared him dead," the OC said.

Locals detained two of his neighbours -- Nur Ali (22) and Shah Alom (30) -- and handed them over to police.

But no case has been filed in this connection till 9:30pm, the OC added.
