Man beaten dead over repaying loan

An elderly man was beaten to death allegedly by his neighbour yesterday as he refused to repay loan of Tk 3 lakh taken from the latter in Akhaura upazila of the district.

The deceased was Abdul Wahab Mia, 65, of Chandpur village in the upazila.

Inspector Md Masud Alam, in-charge of Darkhar police outpost, said the victim took the loan from Hanif Mia.

On Saturday night, an altercation took place between the two when Wahab refused to repay the loan. At one stage, Hanif beat Wahab mercilessly, leaving him seriously injured.

Wahab was later rushed to Brahmanbaria Sadar Hospital where he died yesterday afternoon. The body was sent to the hospital for autopsy.

Action will be taken against the accused after getting complaint, said the police official.
