Man arrested while fleeing to India after acid attack on 15-year-old wife

Law enforcers today arrested a man in Rajshahi's Godagari upazila while he was trying to flee to India, a day after he threw acid on his 15-year-old wife.

A joint team of police and Rapid Action Battalion arrested Murad Ali, 30, from Ashariadaha, a frontier village, in the upazila around 2:45am while he was attempting to flee to India without any legal documents, Rab said in a press release.

Two units of police and a Rab team conducted the operation and arrested him, said Khairul Islam, officer-in-charge of Godagari Police Station.

Murad, of Komorpur village in the same upazila, threw acid on his 15-year-old wife while she was sleeping with her mother and brother, said the OC

Her mother filed a case with Godagari police station, said the OC.

The police said the victim married Murad Ali around a year ago.

She, however, was staying with her parents for the last four months and told her husband that she would not return to his house.
