Lightning strikes kill 4 in Sunamganj

Four people were killed in separate incidents of being struck by lightning in Sunamganj this morning.

The deceased were identified as Shankar Sarkar (26) of Shalla upazila, Shipon Miah (32) of Jagannathpur upazila, Farid Miah (35) of Dakshin Sunamganj and Tapos Miah (35) of Ajmiriganj upazila in Habiganj.

Among them, Tapos died on the spot after lightning struck him while he was harvesting paddy at Chinaura haor in Derai upazila in the morning.

The man came to Sunamganj from Habiganj as a contractual worker to harvest paddy, said KM Nazrul Islam, officer-in-charge of Derai Police Station.

In Shalla upazila, Shankar died as thunderbolt hit him on a road near a local bazar, said Ashraful Islam, officer-in-charge of Shalla Police Station.

Shipon died as a lightning bolt hit him while he was harvesting Boro paddy with others at Naluar Haor, said Ikhtiar Uddin Chowdhury, officer-in-charge of Jagannathpur Police Station.

Meanwhile, Farid died on the spot at Gazir Khal haor after a thunderbolt struck him while he was feeding cows there, said Harunur Rashid Chowdhury, officer-in-charge of Dakshin Sunamganj Police Station.
