Lightning kills boy, injures three others

An 11-year-old boy was killed and three of his playmates were injured in a lightning strike in Kamalganj upazila of the district on Sunday.

The deceased, Rifat Mia, son of Jasim Mia of Rajtila area in the upazila, was a Class V student at Baligaon Government Primary School.

Meanwhile, injured Waris Mia, 11, Sabuj Mia, 19, and Kawsar Mia, 12, of the village, are now undergoing treatment at Moulvibazar Sadar Hospital.

A streak of thunderbolt struck the four boys while they were playing football in their school playground on Sunday evening, leaving Rifat dead on the spot and injure three of his playmates, Officer in Charge (OC) of Kamalganj Police Station Md Arifur Rahman said.

The body was handed over to Rifat's family without autopsy as per the request of the bereaved family members, the OC added.
