Kuakata to reopen for tourists

Tourism-related set-ups including hotels and motels in Kuakata will reopen for visitors tomorrow, after a closure imposed by the administration three and a half months ago due to the outbreak of Covid-19.

As preparation for starting the activities with safety measures, Bangladesh Tourism Board in collaboration with Kuakata Hotel-Motel Owners Association arranged trainings on June 5, 6 and 9 for security personnel, staff of hotels and motels, owners and employees of eateries, drivers, hired motorcyclists and others concerned.

The programme included instructions and hands-on training to make tourism safe, said Motaleb Sharif, secretary of Kuakata Hotel-Motel Owners Association.

Around 120 hotels and motels in Kuakata have been prepared in compliance with health rules, including arrangement of infra-red thermal scanners, masks, gloves and sanitisers.

"At the entrance, hotel staff will apply disinfectant on the guests' body, goods and vehicles. There will be arrangement for washing hands, face and feet. Cleanliness and maintenance of social distance at hotels, vehicles and beach areas will be of utmost priority," said Motaleb Sharif.

Kalapara Upazila Nirbahi Officer Abu Hasnat Mohammad Shahidul Haque said, "All concerned have been asked to comply with the Covid-19 rules. In case of deviation, legal action will be taken."
