Attack on Journo

Kuakata mayor among 16 sued

Sixteen people, including the mayor of Kuakata municipality, have been sued on charge of attacking 10 people, including a journalist.

Bangla daily Jugantor’s Kuakata correspondent Nasir Uddin Biplob yesterday filed the case with Kalapara upazila Judicial Magistrate’s Court which asked the officer-in-charge (OC) of Mohipur Police Station to take lawful steps after proper investigation.

The accused include Abdul Bareq Mollah, mayor of the municipality, his brother Ansar Uddin Mollah, chairman of Latachaplee Union Parishad, son Abdul Bareq Mollah and Masud Mollah, joint convener of Jubo League’s Mohipur upazila unit.

OC Saidul Islam of the police station said they will take necessary steps in this regard after getting a copy of the case from the court.

Meanwhile, a meeting was held at Kuakata Press Club protesting attack on the reporter and 10 other people. Mizanur Rahman Bullet, president of the press club, presided over the programme.

On Monday night, at least 10 people, including Nasir Uddin, were injured in an attack allegedly led by the Jubo League leader and the mayor’s son in Kalapara upazila.

Nasir Uddin, also the former president of Kuakata Press Club and secretary to Muktijoddha Santan Command in the upazila, alleged that the mayor’s son assaulted him as the mayor took offence at a news report that he made in January this year regarding an incident at a local fish market involving the mayor.
