A group of unidentified criminals killed a member of Parbatya Chattogram Jana Samhati Samity (PCJSS-MN Larma) in Baghaichhari upazila yesterday.

The victim, Bashu Chakma, 40, was shot dead around 7:00pm at a house near Babupara Community Centre in the area when he was chatting with four of his friends, said police quoting witnesses.

All of a sudden, a group of attackers opened fire at the house, leaving Bashu dead on the spot, witnesses said.

On information, police recovered the body and sent it to a hospital for autopsy, said Muhammad MA Monjur, officer-in-charge of Baghaichhari Police Station.

Police also recovered a pipe gun from the spot, he added.

Prashanta Chakma, assistant information and publicity secretary of PCJSS-MN Larma Central Committee, alleged both United People's Democratic Front (UPDF) and PCJSS were involved in the murder.

Denying the allegation, UPDF spokesperson Mikel Chakma said the murder might have taken place over PCJSS-MN Larma's internal conflict.

But the Information and Publicity Secretary of PCJSS of Baghaichhari upazila unit, Doyasindhu Chakma said there was no internal conflict in the party and they were not involved in the killing.

At least 41 people have been killed in last one year due to the inter-party conflicts between UPDF and PCJSS-MN Larma in the district.
