One Year of Galachipa Triple Murder

Killers not identified yet

One year into the brutal murder of a couple and their adopted daughter at Chailabunia village in Amkhola union under Galachipa upazila, police have failed to identify the killers.

Delwar Mollah, 55, his wife Parvin Begum, 42, and their adopted daughter Kajoli Begum, 14, were hacked to death on the night of August 1 last year.

Informed by neighbours, police recovered the three bodies the next day and Delwar's brother Idris Mollah lodged a case accusing unknown people with Galachipa Police Station.

Kajoli was raped before murder, police said after investigation.

Md Saidul Islam, OC (Inquiry) of Galachipa Police Station, also investigation officer of the case, said, “We are trying our best to identify the killer gang. In a year we interrogated about 100 people from the area. Hope I will identify the gang very soon as I have an important information about the murder.”

Idris Mollah, plaintiff of the murder case, is living at his father-in-law's house in Auliapur village of Patuakhali Sadar upazila as he left his village due to lack of safety after criminals burnt his house last year.

“I want proper justice for the murder of my brother, his wife and daughter,” he said.

“We are frustrated as the killers have not been identified in a year,” said Md Kamruzzaman, chairman of Amkhola Union Parishad.

Earlier on February 11 last year, Safiq, 15, son of Idris Mollah, was beaten to death allegedly by Mainuddin, son of Bazu Mollah, and his family members over a land dispute.

Bazu Mollah is brother-in-law of Delwar and Idris.

Delwar and his wife Parvin Begum, who were eyewitnesses of the murder, later gave their statement to the Criminal Investigation Department in Patuakhali.

The accused in Safiq murder case might be behind the triple murder, locals said, adding that Delwar's family had a land dispute with local Mainuddin group too.
