Kid burnt to death

A two-year-old baby girl was burnt to death when a fire broke out at their house in Chilmari upazila of the district yesterday noon.

The victim, Yea Moni, was daughter of day labourer Aminul Islam, 40, of Natarkandi village under Astamirchar union in the upazila.

Astamirchar Union Parishad (UP) Chairman Abu Taleb said some children were playing with a gas lighter near Aminul’s house around 12:15pm.

At one stage, a fire accidentally caught Aminul’s house, made with bamboo and straw, and soon engulfed the entire house, leaving Moni dead on the spot.

Villagers rushed to the spot, brought the blaze under control and recovered the charred body of the kid from the gutted remains, the UP chairman added.
