Justice Mahmudul laid to rest
Former chief justice Mahmudul Amin Chowdhury was laid to eternal rest today after a series of Janaza, prayers and tributes in Dhaka and Sylhet.
Justice Mahmudul, who died at his Dhanmondi residence in Dhaka on Sunday due to old age complications, was buried at the graveyard adjacent to the shrine of Hazrat Shahjalal (RA) in Sylhet this evening.
Meanwhile, judicial activities of both the Appellate and High Court Divisions of the Supreme Court except for urgent proceedings remained suspended today in honour of the late chief justice.
The SC administration issued a notice in this regard at the directive of Justice Muhammad Imman Ali, a senior-most judge of the apex court, who is now performing functions of Chief Justice Syed Mahmud Hossain, SC Spokesmen Md Saifur Rahman told The Daily Star.
Earlier in the day, a Janaza for justice Mahmudul was held at the SC yard.
Justice Imman Ali, judges of both the Appellate and HC Divisions, Attorney General Mahbubey Alam former chief justice Md Muzammel Hossain, Bangladesh Bar Council Vice Chairman Advocate Muhammad Yusuf Hossain Humayun, SC lawyers including Supreme Court Bar Association Advocate AM Aminuddin, and SC officials attended the Janaza.
Before the Janaza prayer, the body of justice Mahmudul Amin kept in the SC yard where the judges, lawyers and officials paid tribute to him.
