The deceased was identified as Naimul Islam Poltu, 35, son of late Abdur Rouf of Iswarchanfrapur in the upazila, and an activist of Damurhuda upazila unit of Jubo League.

Jahangir Alam, officer-in-charge (investigation) of Damurhuda Police Station, said two groups -- one led by Damurhuda upazila unit Jubo League General Secretary Abdul Hannan Choto, and another by Helal Uddin, an activist of the unit -- have been running illegal drug trade centring the Darshna Carew and Company for long.

Recently, an altercation took place between the two groups, said the OC.

Around 8:30pm on Friday, the men of Abdul Hannan Choto attacked Naimul belonging to Helal Uddin group with sharp weapons in Darshana rail gate area. Naimul died on the spot.
