Journo hurt in attack

A journalist was injured in an attack by a group of people in Basail upazila yesterday allegedly while he was taking picture of chaos centring a feud between two groups of villagers over a disputed land.

Injured Anayet Karim Bijoy, Tangail correspondent of online news portal Bangla Tribune, in undergoing treatment at Tangail General Hospital.

Kawaljani  Union Parishad (UP) Chairman Habibar Rahman said there has been a dispute between a local Hindu family and the UP over the ownership of a piece of land near the UP for long. 

The incident occurred when members of the Hindu family went to construct a structure on the disputed land yesterday noon and the UP men and locals obstruct them.

When the situation was getting tensed, Bijoy and other journalist started taking pictures.

But at one stage, a group of people beat up Bijoy mercilessly, leaving him injured, he said. 

Injured Bijoy said he went to the spot responding to the call of the UP chairman.
